- To be as clear as possible, restate your main point several times during your presentation to make sure everyone is on the same page and receiving the most important messages. As Dale Carnegie once said, “Tell the audience what you’re going to say, say it, then tell them what you said.”
- Let your audience know why your message matters. The value of your message may be obvious to you, but some people in your audience might need to be told explicitly. Consider who is in your audience and how your content will improve their lives. Then, spell that out directly. Let everyone know what they have to gain up front, and you’ll have a more attentive audience throughout your presentation.
- Incorporating stories into your public speaking can make the difference between a boring presentation and one that your audience continues to talk about long after they’ve left the room. Tailor the story to your message. Make sure that each story has something meaningful to contribute to your main message or one of your supporting points.
